Fatty liver, also known as hepatic steatosis, is exactly what it sounds like: excess fat buildup in
the liver. Normally, a little fat in the liver is fine (up to 5-10% is considered okay). But when the
liver starts storing fat like a teenager hiding snacks under their bed, that’s when things go
south. Over time, this fat can cause inflammation, scarring, and in severe cases, liver failure.
There are two main types:
- Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (AFLD): Caused by, you guessed it, too much alcohol.
- Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD): Happens even if you don’t drink. This one’s
mostly linked to diet, lifestyle, and metabolic issues.
